Recently, the political landscape in the United States and Russia provided much to talk about. Most recently, former United States President, Donald Trump, and Russian President, Vladimir Putin have been thrust into the spotlight with news of their current situations.

In the United States, photos have recently emerged of former President Trump being taken down by a large group of riot-gear-clad New York City police officers. The scene is an incredible one, as it symbolizes the end of the Trump Presidency, and potentially, Trump’s freedom and political career. This scene relates to current events surrounding Trump’s involvement in the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021 in Washington D.C. After being impeached for a second time by the House of Representatives, Trump was charged with ‘inciting an insurrection’, and is currently awaiting a Senate trial.

In Russia, news of President Putin’s current situation surfaced as photos and videos of him in a small, dark prison cell began circulating. This was simply staged by the Russian government and is said to be part of a larger campaign to increase public support for Putin’s candidacy in the upcoming election. Although it is unknown what the election results will be, the photos and videos of Putin in prison have given people hope that the upcoming election will result in a new Russian president.

These current events surrounding Trump and Putin are evidence of the swift and drastic changes that can take place in politics. While Trump was arguably one of the most powerful people in the world, he is now facing criminal charges and the possibility of prison time. On the other hand, Putin is attempting to gain much-needed approval from the Russian people by staging his own imprisonment. It is unclear which directions these politicians’ lives and careers will take, but it is sure to be an interesting journey.
